Cruisers elated
TO THE EDITOR: The Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers would like to thank everyone who came out and enjoyed our 11th Champlain Valley Spring Nationals at the Clinton County Fairgrounds on May 23-24. We had record numbers on Memorial Weekend, both registered vehicles for the show (385), vendors, swap meet, car corral, and best of all, spectators. The public is always admitted free and in this economy you can come out for a great family day and enjoy all there is going on.
We would like to especially thank our major sponsors who, for most of them, have given us support for 11 years. Without them the car show wouldn't be what it is today. Also to the sponsors who supported our classes. They were well recognized. We brought in vehicles from New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, and Quebec. By all indications, the folks who traveled really had a good time. The motels and restaurants were very much to their liking and they will be back next year. This is a big event and the community leaders should take note of the money that was brought into the area.
Our best of show winners were both from Quebec, Paul Bougie with a 1962 Corvette and Sylvain Fortier with a 1955 Chevy Belair. Awesome machines! This year we gave out 50 "Nifty 50" plaques and 10 "Top 10" plaques on Saturday. On Sunday, we gave out four trophies per class (41 classes). We also gave three trophies for the three muffler rap classes. We enjoyed FM 106.3 radio over the weekend.
In addition to our HDTV and Stroker Chevy Engine raffle, we had 14 other raffles going on to help raise money for our charities. Congratulations to all the winners. On Saturday after the show we cruised to A&W on Route 9 north to enjoy live music by "Bootleg" and some more awards. Special thanks to Ray Aley and all the, guys who set this up.
We were able to make major donations to our four charities of choice: the DARE Program of Clinton County, Hospice of the North Country, Viet Nam Veterans' Assistance Fund and Life Flight Medical Rescue. In addition, we will be able to donate to an individual who is now in need of funds for his medical care.
Again, thanks to everyone who participated or who came out to enjoy our show. Check out our Web site at www.cvcc1.homestead.com, for pictures of the show. See you next year.
For the officers and board members.
